The Insurance cross country did not take place last year for the first time in over 80 years and this year the Insurance road relay championships did not get off the ground but on June 10th things in the insurance athletic world came alive again, despite many events being of a very low standard.
Power of 10/Athletics Data standards were achieved by five people in the javelin lead by Martin Aram, who on the 9th of May made the Isle of Man Commonwealth team in the high jump for the third time!
Except for Richard Holland in the 1500m, no other standards were achieved on the track, except in the 5000m. Dorking & Mole Valley's NICK HODGES from Legal & General, a Surrey County cross-country and road runner, repeated his performance of last year by winning both the 1500 and 5000m. In the latter five standards were set. The battle between the first three went on till the last two laps in the race when Hodges pulled clear. 1.Nick Hodges (16.00), 2 Matt Donnelly (16.09.8), 3 Paul Dobson, M40 (16.10.6), 4 Luke Armitage, M45 (16.59); and 5 Richard Holland M50, (17.04.0).
The Cups for the winning teams overall both went to
Men 1 QBE 82, Skandia 98, 3 Royal Sun Alliance 29.
Women 1 QBE 69, 2 Royal & Sun Alliance 26, 3 Legal & General 17.
