Last year Bissett won the M60 200 and 400 in the British Masters Championships at Alexander Stadium and, won the
M65 European Masters Championship over 400 in March this year at Ancona.
At the 15th Surrey Vets he set three Championship records. 100/13.6/200/27.1/400 67.3. " I did not go hard in the third one, the 400, because I prefer at my age to do just two hard races in a day like at the British Masters." He will be favourite for the 100 /200/400 M65 at Birmingham in July.
There were good field events performances but I am concentrating here on track events for Running in London.
Ex-international Carl Lawton, an M60 competitor now, tore away from the field, after only one lap done, to win the 3000m walk easily in a Championship best time of 16:09.9.Carl is married to Barbara (Inkpen/Lawton) who was a Commonwealth gold, European silver and fourth in Olympic high jump!
There was a battle in the M45 400m when Mark Butler, injured in the week and Mark Baker, fought out the finish. Butler is the BBC television athletics statistician. Baker won in 56.2 to Butler's 56.5.
Iris Holder of Woking AC impressed as a W65 winning four events in her age group. One of her two Championship Bests' was in the 200 that she did in 35.8.
