The Open meent at Paliament Hill was a success, with a large amount of Under 11 and 13 year old's doing 70m sprints and the long jump. That was something encouraged by the organiser Robert Slowe, who was once a good veteran marathon runner and club middle distance runner.
The 3000m was the highlight of the evening and Neuschwander, who was second in the German half marathon championships last year in the Black Forrest in 66.36, was following up a 24.42 five miles for road silver in Victoria Park 5' behnd Ben Tickner of Wells City on the Saturday..
Neuschwander was followed home by 16 year old, Liam White ( HW, 9.00.8) who only missed by 4 seconds making the English team in the Intermediate Schools cross country Championships. Another talented runner, in the mixed race, was Surrey track Champion Justina Heslop, who improved on her personal best of 9:48.21 to do 9:30.7. Svenja Able ran round in 10.14.0. Others in the race inside the Athletics Data standard were Ryan McKinley, who works for Runners Need, (9:20.1), Peter Downie (9:25.1) and Henry Dodwell (9:25.6).
Nakole Idirisu (16 of NEB) had a tough battle with City of London College Schoolboy, William Laing (17) in the 800 'A' race and won narrowly in 2:02.6. Apparently Bob Smith the Manager of the Newham and Essex Beagles told me that Idirisu has only been training for three months and looks like a talented lad.
