TIM ABEYIE, a stalwart of the Woodford Green & Essex ladies club, talked to me straight after he won the British League Cup Semi-Final 100m in 10.79 at Copthall Stadium on the 19th of July.
"This year I have had a good season except for the World trials in Birmingham (7th in Final of 200 in 21.8).
' I'll be sitting at home watching it on television" He said despondently. If things had worked out as they did on the 5th of July, in the British Premier league at Eton, when he came 2nd to Adam Nelson in a personal best time of 20.57 he would have made the team no doubt. He ran 20.60 on the 4th of July, last year in a Grand Prix in Zagreb. That he considered that his best race at a good standard meeting.
' I used to play football for Fulham and they released me.I started sprinting in 2000" Although he likes athletics as an individual sport he finds that you train harder for as season only lasting three or four months long. |
