“This was my debut half marathon so it was always going to be a personal best time..........."
Phil Wicks takes 3rd overall (64.43) and becomes the AAA Half Marathon Champion on his debut Half marathon. The course was quite twisty in places with cobbles in parts and many athletes looked whacked by 9 miles with a few notable dnf's in the later miles. Weather was overcast but quite muggy with bright sunshine for the later finishers. Not as nice as the 2003 course I felt but more space round the finish with some beautiful art and sculpture. Dave Anderson won for Bels back in 2004. Very tight on the team front with Bels taking a deserving GOLD (did I just say that!) with Notts AC working as an old school team and THH up there. Winning Bels Team consisted of Wicks, Simon Jones (65.58), Mark Miles (67.48) and Will Cockerall (70.55) chasing the rear of Liz Yelling and triathlete dude (he was motoring) for the majority of the race. 2.16 marathon runner Phil Sly (TH&H/AUS) made a welcome return to racing with a solid run. Hopefully he can work his way back to full fitness and confidence over the Winter months. The first step is often the hardest.....
